Isn't it funny how as soon as you turn the calendar to October, six year olds start asking about Halloween? I love all of the fun of Halloween...cute costumes, loads of candy and yes, getting scared...just a little bit!
Last week my kiddos and I completed one of our first final writing pieces (combined with an art project!) to create a fun bulletin board. As soon as I have the projects up, I will post pics.
First, we brainstormed a variety of things that make us scream. Elizabeth said that cavities make her scream. Joey said that his big brother makes him scream when he jumps out and scares him. I added that students who don't do their homework make me scream. ;-) And, of course, we had the usual Halloween things added to the list: haunted houses, spiders, ghosts, etc.
Then we put pencils to paper and selected the three things that made us scream the most. (Of course I had a couple of boys who weren't scared of anything, but eventually they agreed that they would scream at a thing or two...or ten!)
Once we had our writing in final format, we started our art projects. We had so much fun...especially doing the hair! They loved how they had to make it stick up on the top of their head.
This writing/art project is available in my TeachersPayTeachers store, but just for stopping by, it is yours completely FREE...trick or treat!

A Teacher's Treasure
Saw your post on Proteacher and thought I would check out your blog. What a great writing activity! I will be sure to become a member of your site. My site is http://secondgradelockerroom.blogspot.com/
Just started mine over the summer. Blogging can be addicting.
Sounds cute. I don't know if it's just me, but I can't seem to open/view any of your document links on your blog. It says it can't retrieve or I don't have permission to view. If you have your documents set to private, then visitors can't download them, you have to change your settings within Google Docs.
